Game Day is a new event created last year. Earlier, the competition started solely with Kickoff, where the students registered, met their mentors, and received their kits as well as training. Now, this event is split up into two days: Kickoff and Game Day.

Game Day 2015 will take place on Saturday, March 7th. The event lasts from 9:00am until 4:00pm on UC Berkeley campus, specifically 2050 Valley Life Sciences Building, Dwinelle Hall, Kresge Engineering Library, and O'Brien Hall Breezeway. The purpose of Game Day is to prepare students and mentors for the game season, to foster greater understanding of the design process, and to familiarize teams with PiE resources (mentors, tools, staff, wiki). Game Day is modeled upon the entire game season in the PiE Robotics Competition. Students are encouraged to interact with mentors to complete the main challenge of Game Day, "COMPact". As the name implies, it is a compact version of Final Competition with fewer guidelines.

Game Day Events

Arrival and Check In

At Check-in, hold on to your totes and robots while seated in 2050 VLSB.

Please bring in any missing emergency forms and consent release forms to the check in desks.

Game Day Presentation

The Game Design Committee will have a brief introduction and present a video of this season's challenge. The rules of the Game Day challenge "COMPact" will be announced as well. There will be time allotted to teachers and students to ask questions about the game.

Game Analysis and Design Process

This portion of Game Day is reserved for students to plan and brainstorm. Students are encouraged not to work on the robot, but instead to discuss strategies for the COMPact mini game at the end of the day. Game Analysis begins once students leave 2050 VLSB and arrive at their rooms. There will be team numbers posted outside the rooms in each building. Please refer to the room assignment map for more information.

Work Session

Game Day this year will no longer consist of four segmented work shops. Students will carry out their plan from Game Analysis during the long work session from 11:00am to 3:00pm. However, the start of work session does not end the Design Process. Work session is the time to test out your plan and make improvements. The Game Room will be available through out the day for students to familiarize themselves with the field and to directly ask the Game Design Committee questions.

Lunch One

Lunch begins at 12:00pm for teams in VLSB ( 2, 4, 8, 15, 17, 19, 20, 27, 28, 29, 31, 34). Restaurants are located on Euclid Avenue north of the campus and Telegraph Avenue south of the campus.

Lunch Two

Lunch begins at 12:30pm for teams in 120AB, Bridges and O'Brien Breezeway ( 1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 16, 18, 24, 25, 26, 32, 33). Restaurants are located on Euclid Avenue north of the campus and Telegraph Avenue south of the campus.

COMPact

COMPact is the mini competition students will work towards on Game Day. This is a simpler version of Final Competition with similar game elements but different rules and objectives. The details of COMPact will be revealed at the Game Day Presentation.

VEX Simulator

We have released the simulator for this year's game. Use this to work on the programming aspect of the PiE challenge this year!
